When
Quality Counts
Every image captured by the
inspection camera(s) contains information in the form of light
intensity levels, or levels of gray, varying in value from 0
(black) to 255 (white). The frequency of these gray levels
contains information valuable for inspection.
The image being examined has
a very low contrast. A foreign object may show up as dark gray
against a gray background. Therefore, the system must be
capable of distinguishing between small differences in
density.
As the product passes through
the low energy x-ray beam and detector, several readings
record changes in density. The systems computer monitors the
data and once a contaminant is found, the package or product
is tracked until it reaches the reject device where it is
automatically removed. The inspection process is continuous,
and the defective units are automatically removed from the
production line. The system can interface with a conveyor or a
pipeline inspection point and runs automatically without an
operator.
Nationwide
Inspection Systems, Inc. has developed an extensive library of
software for our vision systems (NIS Computer Systems®) to fit
a variety of applications for the automatic detection of
contaminants in products. With the use of NIS Computer Systems
designed for exclusive use on our x-ray inspection systems we
can accommodate various products with various properties.
